Propylene Glycol in Your Pet Food

Does your pet product contain Propylene Glycol?  Propylene Glycol is the ingredient Purina is being sued over.   Propylene Glycol is the cousin to anti-freeze!!!!  Woooo...  Do you want to be giving your pet anti-freeze?

Why Is It Used?

Propylene Glycol helps preserve the moisture content in some commercial dog foods.

Banned in Cat Food!

Propylene Glycol has been banned in cat food so why is it still ok to use in dog food?  It was banned because of its proven ability to cause a serious type of blood disease in some animals — Heinz body anemia — propylene glycol has been banned by the FDA for use in cat food.

In small doses, possibly this might be safe for your pet.  However, any chemical ingested or applied on a daily basis, becomes toxic.  Because of this, pet owners should consider the potential long-term consequences of giving your pet products with Propylene Glycol in the ingredient.
